People Like You PTY LTD (ACN 691 404 583)

Effective date: 18 October 2025

Welcome to our community! We’re stoked you’re here. People Like You is built on trust, empathy, and the power of peers supporting each other. To keep this a safe and welcoming space for everyone, we ask that you follow these Community Guidelines.

1. Be Kind and Respectful

Treat others with the same compassion and respect you’d want for yourself. We do not tolerate harassment, bullying, or hate of any kind. That means no personal attacks, name-calling, or derogatory language. Discrimination based on race, age, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, or any aspect of someone’s identity is strictly forbidden. We’re all here because of our health journeys – let’s lift each other up. A little kindness goes a long way in making everyone feel safe and valued.

2. Foster a Safe and Inclusive Space

Everyone deserves to feel welcome. Please be mindful and inclusive in your conversations. Healthy debate and sharing different perspectives are fine – so long as it’s done respectfully. If you disagree with someone, focus on the idea or experience, not the person. Remember that we all cope differently; what might seem trivial to you could be very real for someone else. Empathy first, always.

3. Share Experiences, Not Medical Advice

Our community thrives on people sharing personal experiences and hard-earned wisdom. You’re encouraged to tell your story – what treatments have helped you, how you manage day-to-day, etc. – but do not tell others how they should treat their condition. No medical advice. We are not doctors, and our platform does not offer professional medical advice. Telling someone to start/stop a medication or follow a specific treatment plan is not allowed. Each person’s situation is unique. Instead of giving instructions, say “In my experience, I found X helpful…”. If someone asks for medical guidance, gently remind them to consult a qualified health professional. Important: If you are facing a medical emergency or crisis, do not use the platform – call emergency services or seek immediate professional help. Our community is peer-driven and cannot provide urgent medical support.

4. Protect Privacy and Confidentiality

What’s shared in the community stays in the community. We respect each other’s privacy. Do not post anyone else’s personal information (such as full names, contact info, health details) without their consent. Likewise, please don’t copy or share another member’s posts, stories, or health information outside of this platform. Every member has a right to decide when and where their story is told. Conversely, be cautious with your own personal data: avoid posting things like your address, phone number, or other sensitive info in public areas. Remember that while we do our best to keep this a secure space, anything you share is visible to other members – share thoughtfully and only what you’re comfortable with others knowing.

5. No Solicitation or Spam

Our community is here for personal support and connection, not commercial or research activities. Please don’t use the platform for any kind of solicitation – that includes asking members for money, donations, or free services. Advertising products or services is not allowed, whether it’s a miracle cure you’re selling or a personal blog you want to drive traffic to. If you have a helpful resource to share, make sure it’s genuinely relevant and not something you profit from. No recruitment for studies or surveys either, unless you have prior approval from us. Unsolicited links to external sites, especially if you gain from them, will be removed. In short: no spam, no self-promotion, no hidden agendas. Keep interactions genuine and in the spirit of peer support.

6. Appropriate Content Only

To maintain a supportive atmosphere, please keep content appropriate for a wide audience. We understand health discussions can be sensitive or sometimes graphic, but try to flag content that might be upsetting (for example, use a content warning if describing medical procedures in detail). Absolutely no pornographic or sexually explicit material, and no glorification of violence or self-harm. Discussions about self-harm or suicidal feelings should be handled with care – it’s okay to share your feelings, but do not encourage or instruct self-harm. If you or someone you know is in crisis, seek professional help immediately. Illegal content or activities are strictly prohibited. If it’s against the law, it has no place here.

7. Honesty and Authenticity

Be your real self. It’s important that everyone can trust that the person they’re talking to is genuine. Don’t impersonate others or misrepresent who you are. For example, do not claim to be a medical professional (or any expert) if you are not. We also expect honesty in the stories and information you share – misinformation can be harmful, especially in health contexts. If you’re sharing something speculative or not sure if it’s accurate, it’s best to say so or provide a source. Together, we want to build credible, honest conversations.

8. Age Requirement

You must be 18 years or older (or the age of majority in your region) to join and participate in People Like You. We do not knowingly allow minors to create accounts or participate. If you’re under 18, please do not register or create a profile. Accounts found to belong to underage individuals will be removed. This is for the privacy and safety of young people, as discussions often involve sensitive adult health topics.

9. Moderation and Reporting

Our moderation approach is peer-driven and transparent. While we (the People Like You team) actively monitor the community, we rely on you, the members, to help keep our space safe. If you see something that concerns you or violates these guidelines, please report it. Every user profile has a button labeled “Report Suspicious Profile” or a similar reporting tool. Clicking that lets you send us a confidential complaint (through our UserBack system) about the user or content in question. You can also report specific posts or messages if they seem out of line.

What happens when you report? The report goes straight to our moderation team. We will review the flagged profile or content as soon as possible. We might reach out for more information if needed. All reports are taken seriously. Please note, do not engage publicly with someone violating the rules – just report it and let us handle it from there.

We aim to be fair and understanding in moderation. Context matters, we know health conversations can be nuanced. That said, our priority is the community’s safety and trust. We may remove or edit content that breaks the rules, and we’ll let the author know why (when possible).

10. Consequences for Guideline Violations

By participating in People Like You, you agree to abide by these guidelines. Breaching the rules has consequences. Depending on the severity and nature of the violation, actions may include:

  • Warning: For a first-time or minor offense, we might send a friendly reminder or warning, pointing out which guideline was violated. We understand mistakes happen. Consider this a nudge to get back on track.

  • Content Removal: Posts, comments, or any content that break the rules will be removed. You may not always be notified (especially if the violation is obvious), but we generally try to communicate when we remove something you posted.

  • Temporary Suspension: If problems continue or if a single offense is serious, your account may be suspended (temporarily locked) for a period. During suspension, you won’t be able to log in or participate. We’ll usually give you an idea of how long this will last and what needs to change for you to return.

  • Account Banning: In cases of repeated violations or any egregious misconduct that severely harms the community or members (for example, hate speech, impersonating a doctor to give harmful advice, harassment, or spam), we reserve the right to ban your account permanently. Banned users will not be allowed back. This is a last resort, but we will do it to protect our community.

We truly hope to never have to suspend or ban anyone, our goal is to educate and encourage positive participation first. But the safety and wellbeing of our members comes first, so these measures are in place if needed.

11. Platform Boundaries & Disclaimers

Remember, People Like You is peer-driven. All content here is generated by users like you, not by medical professionals (unless explicitly labeled otherwise). Information on this platform is not professional medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider for medical decisions or questions about your health. We’re here to share and support, not to diagnose or treat.

Also, while we talk a lot about health, we are not a healthcare provider or emergency service. We don’t have doctors moderating every profile, and we can’t guarantee the accuracy or usefulness of every comment. Use common sense: if something sounds off or too good to be true, do your own research or check with a professional.

By using People Like You, you also agree to our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. Those documents cover things like how we handle your data, and the legal terms of using the app/website. (For example, our Privacy Policy explains that we never sell your personal data, and our Terms of Use reiterate that content here isn’t medical or legal advice.) We encourage you to read them if you haven’t; we know they’re not as fun as connecting with friends, so here’s the gist: we care about your privacy and rights, and we ask that you use the platform responsibly.

12. Updates to These Guidelines

Just as health journeys evolve, so might these rules. We may update our Community Guidelines from time to time as our community grows and new situations arise. We will do our best to inform you of major changes (for example, via email or an in-app notification). However, it’s a good habit to check this page periodically. Continued use of the platform after an update means you accept the revised guidelines. We promise that any changes will still uphold the same core values: respect, safety, and support.

Thank you for being a part of People Like You. By following these guidelines, you’re helping build a community where everyone can share, learn, and find comfort in knowing they’re not alone. We’re all peers here, people with health challenges and stories, and each of us contributes to the warmth and safety of this space.

If you ever have questions about these guidelines or suggestions to improve them, please reach out to us at support@peoplelikeyou.com - we’re listening.

Now, let’s take care of each other!
